San Jose State University Part-Time Lecturer Rank: Part-time temporary (e.g., Lecturer A, Lecturer B) Salary: Commensurate with rank and experience. Salary information is available at http://....edu/ Brief Description of Duties: The Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San José State University is accepting applications to fill a variety of engineering course instructor positions. Courses range from Introductory Engineering and complementary laboratory courses through multidisciplinary engineering capstone project courses in which students work on real-world projects often with industry support. Examples include, but are not limited to, helping students construct, program, and debug autonomous mobile robots; design, build, and test the efficiency of windmills made from 3D printers; and construct and test efficiency of solar cells. Instructors help the students learn to develop problem solving strategies, not only for course laboratory work, but for future engineering challenges. Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree in an engineering, science, or related technical field. Some engineering courses must have at least a M.S. degree in an engineering, science, or related technical field, and demonstrated knowledge in the discipline to which the lecturer is assigned. Good communication skills, commitment to student learning, and the ability to evaluate individual and team performance are required. Instructors of our engineering courses must have experience with hands on problem solving of engineering and science related tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of good industry relationships is desired in order to initiate and facilitate industry, university, and student project partnerships for capstone project courses. Prior teaching experience preferred; interest in and record of scholarly activity desirable. Candidates should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. If requested, candidates should be prepared to provide evidence of their qualifications such as original transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. Hiring Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on an assessment of their knowledge of and experience with applying engineering and science related subject matter and practices of the discipline to which the individual is assigned. Documented examples of accomplishments which address real-world engineering problems will carry significant weight during deliberations. Applicants will also be evaluated based on an assessment of their potential to be effective instructors of our engineering students. Deadline: Positions will be open until filled. Although the deadline for submitting applications is open, candidates are advised to submit their application materials by May 16, 2014 for consideration of a Fall 2014 appointment.
